Day One Plan
We have pictures planned in Wrigley Field prior to our departure. There will be a send off party with live music at the Engine 78 firehouse on Waveland across from Wrigley. At 8:30 the fire department will escort us to the lakefront path. Our first break will be at 95th St/Calumet Park on the lake. Also home to the Coast Guard. Second break in Gary, Indiana at the SouthShore Rail Cats minor league baseball stadium. Our third break of the day will be in Pines, Indiana. We arrive in New Buffalo behind a fire engine escort. Followed by a reception party at Casey's Bar and Grill. My kind of bike ride. This is shaping up to be one great Memorial Day.

Todays route will take us down the Chicago lakefront bike path and around lower Lake Michigan leading up to New Buffalo. This is a great ride with the lake in view most of time. After leaving the bike path about 72nd St we find our way onto route 12 which passes through South Chicago, Gary and the steel belt foundry mills. After riding through this heavy hazy industrial steel history, we emerge into beautiful Indiana Dunes State Park.
